The Role
Reporting directly to the executive leadership team, the Head of Underwriting will be responsible for building the local underwriting capability, setting portfolio strategy, and overseeing underwriting governance across the Australian business. The role will also act as a Responsible Manager in connection with local regulatory and licensing requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing and leading underwriting operations in Australia
- Developing underwriting strategy aligned to local market conditions
- Oversight of underwriting governance, risk controls and compliance
- Building and managing senior broker and client relationships
- Driving portfolio performance, profitability and sustainable growth
- Representing the underwriting function at executive and market level
- Minimum 15+ years’ experience in insurance including senior leadership roles.
- Experience across legal expenses insurance or related specialty lines
- A strong understanding of the Australian insurance market, broker landscape and regulatory environment
- A proven track record leading underwriting portfolios with commercial accountability
