Livin' La Vida Mocha

Coming up to the festive season, I wanted to write about something that we can all relate to in the business world and that is… coffee! Many people drink coffee in order to boost their energy and feel recharged throughout the day. But in fact, your daily coffee could do so much more than just that.

  • Does coffee decrease Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease?

  • Increase your fibre intake?

  • Provide less risk of heart disease?

No, unfortunately, this is not one of those blogs…Instead, given that coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world today – I will be probing into the association people make between ‘coffee and social interactions’ as well as the benefits it brings to us in our professional lives.

No matter the professional experience, the characteristics or custom of an individual, coffee has acted as an instrument for building relationships in diverse societies all around the world. The topics that can be discussed around a cup of coffee are countless and also bring people together in a less ‘uptight’ or ‘stale’ environment, unlike a boardroom or office. Being in a social environment, drinking a coffee that promotes alertness and mental focus will only provide benefits to a meeting.

What are those benefits you may ask? A simple meeting over coffee can help to develop these 5 benefits of a business relationship which I am sure anyone can agree are vital components:

  1. Trust

  2. Credibility

  3. Friendship or Comfortability

  4. Mutual Success

  5. Future Business

Yes, a lot of the times individuals fear rejection but what is the worst thing that could happen? They turn you down and you don’t have to speak to the person again. BUT the best thing? Well, the opportunity is there to strike up a good conversation, learn about what the drivers are, how you can potentially work together and how to ensure success for both parties involved.

So as the festive season approaches, why not take the opportunity to organise a meeting over a nice cup of coffee? You won't regret it!
