Senior Property Underwriter
Location: Sydney, Australia

My client is hiring a Senior Property Underwriter to join their team. This is a pivotal role focused on underwriting property risks for middle market and corporate clients, contributing to strategic growth and profitability. The successful candidate will be instrumental in building strong broker and client relationships while delivering tailored insurance solutions aligned with the organisation's underwriting philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies and account plans in collaboration with distribution teams to meet premium and profitability targets.
  • Originate, assess, and underwrite corporate property risks with a strong focus on business development.
  • Deliver customised insurance solutions that align with profitability goals.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments in line with underwriting guidelines, pricing models, and authority limits.
  • Provide timely and accurate underwriting service and documentation.
  • Foster long-term relationships with brokers and clients to support retention and identify new opportunities.
  • Analyse portfolio performance and contribute to strategic reporting for the Australia & New Zealand region.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform underwriting decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting systems and data integrity.
  • Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to team training and knowledge sharing.
About You:
  • Proven technical expertise in underwriting corporate property risks.
  • Strong understanding of the Australian property insurance market and broker landscape.
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or ANZIIF certification (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain profitable client relationships.
  • Excellent marketing, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Professional, confident, and capable of engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly organised with strong time management skills.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and results-oriented.

You'll be joining a collaborative team of twelve property underwriters within the Property & Specialty Underwriting division. The team is committed to delivering innovative solutions and exceptional service across Property and Engineering lines, aligned with broader business objectives.
